MASH offers free training throughout the years for Potential Sober Home Operators (MASH 101) and for the live-in Peer Mentors or House Managers (Peer Mentor/Manager Training). If you are simply looking for information regarding operating a sober home or steps to certification, please register for the appropriate information session.

MASH Peer Mentor/Manager’s Training
This training is for the live-in house peer mentor or House Manager of currently MASH-certified sober home. If you are looking to operator a sober home, please sign up for the MASH 101 for Potential Operators.
Zoom – October 20 & 21 – 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
This training a two-day training on Zoom from 5:00pm – 8:00 pm. This training is required for current live-in peer mentors/managers of MASH-certified sober homes.
Presence and participation are required for both days to receive a certificate of attendance.

Information Sessions – MASH 101 for Potential Operators
Interested in learning more about MASH certification? This one-hour virtual information session will provide a synopsis of MASH certification, the benefits of operating certified sober housing, the steps to certification, and expectations of operators of MASH certified sober homes.
This session is designed for individuals who are interested in learning more about MASH certification and determining whether operating MASH-certified sober housing is right for them.

MASH 101 for Potential Operators
This two-day in person training is required for MASH certification and is for those who will operate the sober house.
In Person – November 3 &4, 2026 – 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Certified Sober Housing 101 for Potential Operators two-day training will provide you with information on MASH Standards for certification, the certification process and required documentation, benefits of certification, and more. The training will be held in person from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Presence and participation are required for both days to receive a certificate of attendance which is required for certification.
Are you considering operating a sober home in Massachusetts?
Sober housing is more than providing a place for people to live. Operators must have the ability to support individuals in recovery and are responsible for creating a safe, supportive and recovery-oriented environment. MASH Sober Housing 101 is designed for individuals with these abilities who are considering operating a sober home. The training provides an overview of the responsibilities, requirements, and best practices involved in operating quality sober housing.
MASH welcomes Individuals who are new to sober housing. However, an ability and genuine commitment to supporting people in recovery – not simply a real estate or financial opportunity – is essential to becoming a quality sober home operator.
Participants will learn about:
- The purpose and principles of sober housing
- The role and responsibilities of an operator
- MASH certification requirements and best practices
- Sober home management, oversight, and financial considerations
Please note: This training is not appropriate for individuals whose primary interest in sober housing is real estate investment, rental income, or maximizing occupancy.
